She began her film career at age four with a small role in Irving Pichel's film "Happy Land". Her career spanned 39 years and over 45 films, she was nominated for three academy awards for her roles in "Rebel without a Cause", "Splendor in the Grass", and "Love with the Proper Stranger". One of Hollywood's most versatile actresses, she appeared in dramas, comedies, westerns, and musicals. She died at age 43. The circumstances surrounding the night of her drowning still remain a mystery.
